Doha 1
श्रीगुरु चरन सरोज रज निज मनु मुकुरु सुधारि । बरनउँ रघुबर बिमल जसु जो दायकु फल चारि ॥
English meaning
After cleansing the mirror of my mind with the dust of the Guru’s lotus feet, I describe the pure glory of Lord Rama, which bestows the four fruits of life.
Doha 2
बुद्धिहीन तनु जानिके सुमिरौं पवन-कुमार । बल बुधि बिद्या देहु मोहिं हरहु कलेस बिकार ॥
English meaning
Knowing that I lack wisdom, I remember the Son of the Wind. Grant me strength, understanding and knowledge, and remove my afflictions and faults.

जय हनुमान ज्ञान गुन सागर । जय कपीस तिहुँ लोक उजागर ॥१॥
English meaning
Victory to Hanuman, ocean of knowledge and virtue. Victory to the lord of the vanaras, whose glory illumines the three worlds.

राम दूत अतुलित बल धामा । अञ्जनि-पुत्र पवनसुत नामा ॥२॥
English meaning
You are Rama’s messenger and the abode of incomparable strength. You are known as Anjani’s son and the Son of the Wind.
Chaupai 3
महाबीर बिक्रम बजरङ्गी । कुमति निवार सुमति के सङ्गी ॥३॥
English meaning
Great and valiant hero, with limbs as strong as the thunderbolt, you remove misguided thought and accompany right understanding.

कञ्चन बरन बिराज सुबेसा । कानन कुण्डल कुञ्चित केसा ॥४॥
English meaning
Golden in complexion and splendidly dressed, you wear earrings and have beautifully curling hair.

हाथ बज्र औ ध्वजा बिराजै । काँधे मूँज जनेउ साजै ॥५॥
English meaning
The thunderbolt and banner shine in your hands, and the sacred thread of munja grass rests across your shoulder.

सङ्कर सुवन केसरीनन्दन । तेज प्रताप महा जग बन्दन ॥६॥
English meaning
You are the son of Shankara and the delight of Kesari. Your radiance and mighty glory are revered throughout the world.

बिद्यावान गुनी अति चातुर । राम काज करिबे को आतुर ॥७॥
English meaning
You are learned, virtuous and exceedingly wise, always eager to carry out Rama’s work.

प्रभु चरित्र सुनिबे को रसिया । राम लखन सीता मन बसिया ॥८॥
English meaning
You delight in listening to the Lord’s deeds. Rama, Lakshmana and Sita dwell within your heart.

सूक्ष्म रूप धरि सियहिं दिखावा । बिकट रूप धरि लङ्क जरावा ॥९॥
English meaning
Taking a subtle form, you appeared before Sita; taking a formidable form, you burned Lanka.

भीम रूप धरि असुर सँहारे । रामचन्द्र के काज सँवारे ॥१०॥
English meaning
Taking a mighty form, you destroyed the demons and brought Lord Rama’s tasks to fulfilment.

लाय सञ्जीवन लखन जियाये । श्रीरघुबीर हरषि उर लाये ॥११॥
English meaning
You brought the life-restoring herb and revived Lakshmana. Delighted, Lord Rama embraced you.

रघुपति कीह्नी बहुत बड़ाई । तुम मम प्रिय भरतहि सम भाई ॥१२॥
English meaning
Lord Rama praised you greatly, saying, ‘You are as dear to me as my brother Bharata.’

सहस बदन तुह्मारो जस गावैं । अस कहि श्रीपति कण्ठ लगावैं ॥१३॥
English meaning
‘A thousand mouths will sing your glory,’ said Lord Rama as he drew you into his embrace.

सनकादिक ब्रह्मादि मुनीसा । नारद सारद सहित अहीसा ॥१४॥
English meaning
Sanaka and the other sages, Brahma, Narada, Saraswati and Shesha all sing your praise.

जम कुबेर दिगपाल जहाँ ते । कबि कोबिद कहि सके कहाँ ते ॥१५॥
English meaning
Yama, Kubera and the guardians of the directions praise you; how then could poets and scholars fully describe your glory?

तुम उपकार सुग्रीवहिं कीह्ना । राम मिलाय राज पद दीह्ना ॥१६॥

You rendered great service to Sugriva, bringing him to Rama, who restored him to the throne.

तुह्मरो मन्त्र बिभीषन माना । लङ्केस्वर भए सब जग जाना ॥१७॥

Vibhishana followed your counsel and became lord of Lanka, as the whole world knows.

जुग सहस्र जोजन पर भानु । लील्यो ताहि मधुर फल जानू ॥१८॥
English meaning
The sun lay thousands of yojanas away, yet as a child you reached for it, thinking it a sweet fruit.

प्रभु मुद्रिका मेलि मुख माहीं । जलधि लाँघि गये अचरज नाहीं ॥१९॥

Carrying the Lord’s ring in your mouth, you crossed the ocean; with your strength, this was no wonder.

दुर्गम काज जगत के जेते । सुगम अनुग्रह तुह्मरे तेते ॥२०॥

However difficult the world’s tasks may be, they become easier through your grace.

राम दुआरे तुम रखवारे । होत न आज्ञा बिनु पैसारे ॥२१॥

You guard the doorway to Rama; no one enters without your permission.

सब सुख लहै तुह्मारी सरना । तुम रच्छक काहू को डर ना ॥२२॥

Those who take refuge in you find happiness. With you as protector, there is nothing to fear.

आपन तेज सह्मारो आपै । तीनों लोक हाँक तें काँपै ॥२३॥

You alone can contain your immense power; at your roar, the three worlds tremble.

Rama, the ascetic king, is supreme over all, and you bring all his works to completion.

Whoever comes to you with a sincere wish receives abundant fruit in life.

राम रसायन तुह्मरे पासा । सदा रहो रघुपति के दासा ॥३२॥

The life-giving essence of devotion to Rama is in your keeping; you remain forever the servant of Lord Rama.
Chaupai 33
तुह्मरे भजन राम को पावै । जनम जनम के दुख बिसरावै ॥३३॥
English meaning
Through devotion to you, one reaches Rama and leaves behind the sorrows accumulated over many births.

अन्त काल रघुबर पुर जाई । जहाँ जन्म हरिभक्त कहाई ॥३४॥

At life’s end, one goes to Rama’s abode and, if born again, is known as a devotee of Hari.

और देवता चित्त न धरई । हनुमत सेइ सर्ब सुख करई ॥३५॥

One need not turn the mind toward other deities; service to Hanuman brings every happiness.

सङ्कट कटै मिटै सब पीरा । जो सुमिरै हनुमत बलबीरा ॥३६॥

Adversity ends and suffering is removed for those who remember Hanuman, the mighty hero.

Whoever reads this Hanuman Chalisa attains fulfilment; Lord Shiva is witness to this.

तुलसीदास सदा हरि चेरा । कीजै नाथ हृदय महँ डेरा ॥४०॥

Tulsidas is forever the servant of Hari and prays: ‘Lord, make your dwelling within my heart.’

पवनतनय सङ्कट हरन मङ्गल मूरति रूप । राम लखन सीता सहित हृदय बसहु सुर भूप ॥
